Women's History Year 'Round

Women’s History Week was started in California in 1978. National Women’s History Week was established in 1981. The celebration of National Women’s History Month began in 1987. In 2008, the Vermont Women’s History Project proposes that Vermonters begin to celebrate women’s history all year long. Women have been actively contributing to the story of Vermont every day of the year. We need to be recognizing and sharing information about these contributions throughout the year.  To do this, we are looking for partners who are interested in co-sponsoring events and being part of this larger effort throughout 2008. These partners might be:

  • Local Historical Societies who would like to plan a program based on a woman or an aspect of women’s lives in their community
  • Women’s groups, like AAUW and BPW, chapters who will feature some aspect of women’s contributions to Vermont in one of their programs in 2008
  • Libraries or schools that would like to co-sponsor a Vermont Humanities Council speaker related to the history of women in Vermont
  • Other organizations or institutions planning on holding an event related to women’s history in Vermont who would like the assistance of the Vermont Women’s History Project in the form of ideas, experts, marketing, event coordination, or support materials
Let’s work together to make every month women’s history month    If you are interested in knowing more and would like to be part of this effort, please contact:  Judith Irving, Director, Vermont Women’s History Project 126 State Street, Montpelier, Vermont 05633 802-828-5940
